The single most direct connection between each and every one of us and the global problem of climate change is energy; specifically, the ways we choose and use energy in our daily lives.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, "Your home uses energy every day, all day long. It uses energy to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It uses energy to provide you with light when you need it. It uses energy to provide you with hot water. And, it uses energy to run all of your home appliances and electronics."
A home energy audit is the primary step to assessing how much energy your home consumes, and to discover what means you can take to make your home more energy efficient.
The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program is an energy efficiency analysis system brought to you by the
New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. This nationally acclaimed home improvement program is sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and uses the best of home testing, techniques and upgrades to increase your home's energy performance, comfort, health and safety.
Only contractors that meet the certification and accreditation guidelines of the Building Performance Institute (BPI) can participate as part of the ENERGY STAR® program.
Based on a "whole house approach", our trained and certified consultants will evaluate the following areas, in accordance with the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program, to identify problem areas, and deliver a single comprehensive report for you to maximize energy efficiency and save money.
- Health and safety check (carbon monoxide levels, gas leaks, moisture, and indoor air quality problems)
- Overall comfort level (cold/hot spots, drafts, indoor air quality, stuffiness/musty odors)
- Air infiltration rates
- Insulation levels
- Heating system efficiency
- Cooling system/central air conditioning efficiency, if applicable
- Domestic hot water system efficiency
- Distribution system (ductwork) condition, if applicable
- Major appliances evaluation
- Lighting analysis
Green Living Solutions uses a variety of techniques and equipment to determine the energy efficiency of your home. We will use equipment such as blower doors, which measure the extent of leaks in the building envelope, and infrared cameras, to reveal hard-to-detect areas of air infiltration and missing insulation.
Your health and safety concerns will be addressed as we inspect for gas leaks and spillage, carbon monoxide, indoor air quality, and sources of moisture which can cause mold and mildew. We can also explain how you can use high efficiency systems or renewable energy to power your home for electricity, heating, cooling, and water heating.
A proper balance between all of these elements will result in a more comfortable, healthier home environment, while increasing your property value.
We can all reduce our impacts on global warming by the ways we choose and use energy. Preventing the worst impacts of climate change through clean and efficient energy is in everyone's best interest. It is up to each and every one of us to do our part in our communities, at work, at school, on the road, and especially in our homes and our own backyards.
Now is the right time to make your living space more comfortable, protect your health and safety, save money, reduce your energy use, and dramatically lower your impacts on global warming.Click here for additional Energy Savings Tips or Contact us today to schedule for your Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Audit!
